How can you help?

Freezer Meals

This program has volunteer cooking, packaging, and freezing meals on site (usually a senior center). They are collected and brought to the Department of Aging. From there the meals are packaged according to who needs what and delivered to the homebound elderly living in rural areas.

Shopping for Seniors

This program serves those who cannot shop for themselves. The grocery orders are called in on Wednesday and given to the volunteers who shop and deliver groceries the following day.

Commodities

Anyone interested in helping with commodities can visit or call our office. Commodities are distributed once a month. Volunteers are needed to help sort, box, and distribute these much needed food items.

Meals on Wheels

This program helps people stay in their own home through use of volunteers who deliver noon meals five days a week. These volunteers are the only face to face contact for folks who are otherwise isolated. Routes are available in all parts of the larger cities in Butler County.

Cell Phones For Seniors

This program provides recycled cell phones to elderly for 911 emergency calls. With this resource senior citizens can be more independent. Volunteers help with collection of used phones.

Kansas Yellow Dot

This program is similar to the vial of life. A yellow sticker is placed on the rear drivers windshield to notify emergency personnel that in the glove box is a yellow envelope with your medical information. If you are injured in a traffic accident medical personnel will be able to identify any medical need you may have. Volunteers assist in the distribution of yellow dot kits.
